Member Highlight – Business Owner, Ebony Green

Ebony Green, M.S., CC-SLP, owner of CASA Speech Therapy

As many working parents strive to find a balance between family and work, Ebony has shown she has found balance while growing and expanding her own company. 

Ebony is a wife, mother and small business owner. She has been with H. Co since the end of June. We asked Ebony some questions so we can get to know her and her business a little bit better. 

Where did you grow up? 

I grew up in Austin, TX

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

I wanted to be a meteorologist–then a teacher.  I always had aspirations to go to college and be a career woman.  I was actually the first person in my family to graduate from college.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why? 

My favorite vacation spot is Belize, Central America.  My mother is from Belize and I was fortunate to be able to visit Belize almost every summer during my childhood.

How did you end up in Speech Therapy?  

I have always had a passion for teaching and helping others.  Before I became a speech language pathologist I was a teacher.  I decided to pursue speech therapy because I realized there was a huge need for SLPs in the school setting.  I worked in the school setting for 4 years before I transitioned to private practice.

What motivated you to start your own company? 

I have always marched to the beat of my own drum.  I am a natural born problem solver and leader.

How do you balance work and home life? 

I have two children and I run a company with 10 employees so the day to day is a bit hectic but I try to designate specific days and times for family activities.

I typically work long, 12 hour days Monday-Wednesday. Thursdays I work 4-8 hours and try to spend the afternoon with my preschooler.  Fridays I work sporadically and try to catch up on household duties and spending time with my children and husband.  

What is your favorite part of your job? 

My favorite part of my job is using my skills and expertise to not only help clients with speech but to help my staff become great therapists.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see CASA Speech Therapy being able to reach multitudes of clients and not just in Arizona.  We are currently piloting the use of telecommunication and speech therapy combined. Teletherapy is the newest advancement in speech therapy and we are excited to explore using this service delivery model in the future.

What do you think makes you different from others in your field?  

I’m not afraid to put myself out there and take risks; I am willing to try anything once.  In the 6 months that we’ve been in business we have grown in many ways. Besides traditional speech therapy, we offer Baby Sign Language Classes, school based therapy services, teletherapy in schools and for private clients, and we just started accepting insurance clients, whereas previously all of our clients were private pay or state benefit recipients only.  

What do you want people to know about you that they may not know yet? 

I am the most noncompetitive person there is, but I won’t back down from a challenge.  I’ll complete the challenge and help others along the way. I want everyone to win.
