Do you know where to find your clients?

Entrepreneurs have a special advantage here. Most often, when individuals or small teams start a new business it’s because they have an intimate understanding of the need for the product/service. If this is you, then you already know where your target market can be found because you ARE your client.

If you aren’t even getting inquiries, chances are your clients aren’t seeing you or they aren’t motivated to take action. So, here are some ways to make sure they see you in the first place:

– Forums where they go to gripe. This is where they will tell you their pain points. They’ll basically write your website copy for you. And they will also tell you the products and services they wish you offered.
-How about where they go to learn? This could be websites, stores, blogs, Instagram influencers, or anyplace where they might find an “expert” in what they need. You could create this space, or just run an ad or collaborate with the existing experts.
-Trade shows. This can be a tricky one. Just because there’s a trade show in your field doesn’t necessarily mean your target client is there. If there are multiple trade shows where you could showcase your specialty, look at those options and consider their price point, their style, the other vendors who will be present, where the show is located, etc. These details will tell you the type of customers who will be there. If your prices are too high for the clients coming to the show, it’s a waste of time and money. If you are offering a service that the show solves for them, they may not see a need to hire you.
-Magazine, print materials. Do your clients look at specific publications (or even blogs) where you might consider posting your work? Do they shop there or go there for inspiration? Design your ad accordingly.

These are just a few places to consider. Really get in the head of your clients. Ask your current or past clients where they found you, where they looked first, all the other places where they were shopping. Ask them why they chose those rather than other avenues. Get as much info as you can and then turn that into action to find more clients.

Get to it!
